When a loved one, dies

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2  For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

And so it continues unto verse 8 of this chapter.

Eph 5:15-16  Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

With regards to Ephesians, this chapter 5 heading is to walk in love.

When a loved one dies, there are many questions and statements that arise in our thoughts. Things from:

“Was the person comfortable, without pain of suffering, when they gave their last breathe?”

“Why did God take her or him away, they were so young?”

“Am I sure of my salvation?”

“If only I spent more time with him or her.”

The death of anyone, make us stand still and think about our own life. Are we spending enough time with our loved ones? Am I doing enough to be the salt for others who live in this world? Are our priorities in the right place?

There’s so many memories that flood our minds of the one who has died. Times where you spent endless hours with them with many laughs. Watching television shows with them like Tom & Jerry cartoons. Driving them to work. Having Christmas lunches with them. The memories are endless and the sadness big.

It doesn’t help to wonder whether you could have spent more time with the person who died because they aren’t there anymore but there is something that you can do. You can spent more time with those that are still present. We can prioritise our lives differently and live life more happy by implementing things and people into our lives that are important to us. The thing is, love is the most important thing. God is love and one of His biggest commands is to love Him with your whole heart, soul and mind and others like yourself. Love is very important to God and losing a loved one, you will be able to see why.

When we love others, they are important to us and when they are important to us, we forgive them. We spent time with them. We share our lives with them and when we do this, we don’t have regrets when they die.

We don’t know when our time comes for Jesus Christ to come for us. Besides being ready for Him by allowing Him to be your Lord and Saviour, time is limited here on earth. We need to live life so that the people who are left behind when we die, do not have regrets either. We only have now. Hug that husband or wife of yours. Tell your children that you love them and spent that 30 minutes each week night with them. Take your elderly mother’s hand in yours, look her in the eyes and tell her how much she means to you. Forgive that person who have brought sorrow over you. Make amense with those you need to. Take that 30 minutes each day and do what you love because when you die, everything that was here on earth, will not be anymore.

God bless you dear listener.

Children on white linen on Christmas day

In 2015 my brother in law who is a pastor, asked my husband and I whether we will join him and other congregation members of the church he preached in, to serve people in hospital. The only thing he said to us, was that we will be praying for people. I didn’t know what to expect. We visited a hospital in JHB South where we walked up three flights of stairs, just to enter the children’s ward. My brother in law, the pastor instructed us to pray for and over the children. So each of us walked down the hospital ward and enter one room after the next, where we prayed for the children and their parents if they were present.

There was one room where a very sick baby was laying on the hard, hospital bed on white linen. The baby had an IV line inserted in his arm and the white bandage contrasted with his soft, black skin. I felt so heartbroken for this baby who were sick in hospital, no parent or adult in his presence. All alone in hospital, on Christmas day. I laid my hands on this child and asked God to heal him, in Jesus Christ name. The baby had a smile on his face. Although he didn’t say a word, he responded to my voice. It was as if he understood me. After the prayer and time I spent with him, I gave him a Christmas present. Each patient we prayed for, received a present that day.

There are many people that says that they can’t muster up the strength to visit children homes, go to hospitals to pray for the sick or visit the poor but Jesus taught us to be the light of this world.

Mat 5:14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Mat 5:15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Mat 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

When you sit in the comfort of your home, underneath that warm blanket of yours or that aircon, someone out there are wishing for that blanket you have or that aircon that keeps you cool. Someone out there are longing for someone to pray for them in their sick bed or a child who longs for that time that you spent with them, who have to fight for attention in the children’s home. If we do not go out and be the light, then we miss the opportunity to show Jesus Christ to people. We miss the opportunity to show the child in the children’s home, what love looks like. God who is love.

We miss the opportunity that Jesus work through us, when we lay our hands on the sick to pray for them and He heals them. We miss the opportunity to show someone who have less, Jesus Christ that provides to them, through you who are obedient and give what you can.

Be the light.

Be someone that Jesus use to show them who He is.

Will He find fruit?

If Jesus visits you today, will He find fruit on you?

Joh 15:1-6  “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If Jesus visits you today, will He find fruit on your branch?

The fruit that Jesus wants to find in each person, is the fruit of the Spirit and that we find in Gal 5:22-23

Gal 5:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. These things are the fruit that Jesus wants us to have in our lives.

Now you might say that you give and that shows loves. Or you might say that you have self control because you can control yourself in some areas of your life. But then we read scripture of Gal 5:16-21

Gal 5:16-21  But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I read something in 2016 that said:

Dead works can even include worship, tithing, and deeds of kindness. Worship must be in spirit and truth or it is a dead work. Giving out of constraint, emotionalism, or because you are embarrassed to have the offering plate pass in front of you is a dead work. Deeds of kindness or ministry done out of obligation or to receive glory are also dead works. Any work which has no capacity to be made alive by the Spirit of God, is a dead work.

For example: Giving to the poor because you want to gain merit with God or because you want to receive or because you feel emotional about seeing someone begging for food. Giving to someone for these reasons, are dead works. When is it not dead works? When the Spirit of God have prompted you to do it. When you know for a fact, that God asked you to give money, food or clothes to the person or persons you have visited, seen begging or know off.

When Jesus visits you to find fruit, he wants to find fruit that is genuine. Love because you really love, not because you want to receive something back in return. That is from the flesh and called idolatry. You want more so you give.

Evaluate yourself today. Look at the things you do.
Are they because you expect something in return?

Look at the motives behind you deeds.

Do you really have self control, if you shows daily signs of being impatient?

If you really want to change, ask Jesus Christ to come into your life and help you.

As Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior. The One guiding you with His Holy Spirit.

Have your parent done wrong to you?

Have your parent done wrong to you?

There’s a lot of brokenness in this world of ours. The reason for that is because we all sin and are not without sin. Sometimes the brokenness or sin is in our own household. Sometimes it is our parents or us as parents, who has done something sinful or wrong towards our children. Sometimes parents make mistakes because they are human and also fall short of the glory of God. Parents are human and can make mistakes when they parent a child.

Today I want to talk to the parents and children. First to the parents. If you know that you have done wrong towards your children, in some choices that you made regarding their up bring, then you go and ask their forgiveness. I will never forget how a pastor taught me that he too had to ask his children forgiveness for some faults he made as a parent. After I heard this, I asked forgiveness from my children as well for poor choices I made regarding them in the past. It was the hardest thing to do because I had to take my pride and shuff it down. It’s not easy to ask forgiveness I know but God’s word asks it from us:

Mat 5:23  “So if you are offering your gift at the altar and remember there that another believer has something against you,

Mat 5:24  leave your gift at the altar. First go away and make peace with that person. Then come back and offer your gift.

Many parents don’t want to ask forgiveness or admit that they have made a mistake towards their children. Reason for this is because they think that this will diminish their authority as a parent. The thing is, our authority as parents come from the Lord and not from our performance, as K.Smith says from SATS. We gain authority in our workplace because of how we performed in lower position and then get promoted to a point where we are in authority positions. But as parent, this isn’t true. We receive the authority as parents from God over our children.

Now I get to the children. There are some times where our parents have done such a big thing against us, maybe abuse or maybe something worse, that forgiveness isn’t easy. I want to ask you that if your parent who have done something sinful against you and you struggle with forgiving then, along with taking it to the Lord, see a counselor. He or she will be able to help you work through this and along with Jesus Christ, will be able to bring you to a point where you are able to forgive.

A pastor once told me that holding on to that bad thing that person did to you in the past, only makes you unhappy. That person might have forgot about it years ago or if they have come to you to ask forgiveness, then it’s because what they have done to you are bothering them. But holding onto that unjustice that was done to you, makes you unhappy and binds you to depression, wrath, unforgiveness and unable to have relationships with others and with God. Get a counselor and work through that unjustice that your parent might have done towards you. It’s freeing.

In your opinion, which one is it?

Today’s our podcast name is: In your opinion, which one is it.

I’m reading scripture first and then I want to discuss it and ask, please contact us through our website with your opinion on this topic and scripture.

Act 20:35  In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

I’m going to give you two scenarios.

You have a family member who are well into their 80’s or 90’s of age. This family member come to visit you and you feel it in your heart to bless them with a small gift, to show them that you love them. You know that this family member have been retired for many years already and you remember how this family member used to gift you as a child. Nowadays they don’t anymore but you understand why because they do not have that much anymore due to retirement and they are old. It’s now your turn to gift them, to love them and you feel blessed that you still can because they are still present in your life.

Scenario number two.

You are able to give to others, those who are in need and those who are in your family and friends circle. The reason why you are able to give to others, is because you are financially well off. God is blessing you with enough and thus you can give.

This is the two scenarios.

My question to you today is:

Are we more blessed to give because we have enough financially or are we more blessed to give because we can give to those who are still present in our lives?

I’ve discussed this question with my family two days ago and my husband says that he feels that this scripture applies to both of these two scenarios. I agree with him. We are more blessed to give (than to receive) when we have enough to be able to give and when those people we give to, are still present and we can still enjoy their company.

But I want you to take today’s scripture, read it by yourself and meditate about it. If you want, drop us an email through our website which is in the description of the podcast. But if not, think about what this scripture means to you and whether you agree with us or not.

I’m ending this podcast with the scripture again:

Act 20:35  In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Deo Volente

Today’s topic is: Deo Volente. It’s a Latin word and here is how I was familiarize with it.

In our church, we have a lot of elderly people. When you have a conversation with one of them, they will always end a conversation about things that they want to do in the future, with the abbreviation: “DV.” I never asked them what it means because I didn’t want to look stupid, so I got home and Googled it. The abbreviation “DV” means “Deo Volente” and the meaning of these words are: If God permits.

Here in South Africa, you see a lot of businesses names are Deo Volente. The one time when we came back from a visit at my in-laws, along the way we passed a farm at their name bord shown the farm’s name as Deo Volente. You can Google Deo Volente and see how many businesses names are these words in SA.

Paul visited Ephesus when the following happened:

Act 18:19  And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

Act 18:20  When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

Act 18:21  But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

I have read the KJV because the ESV, GW and LEB translation all leave out the words in verse 21 of Paul where he states that he needs to attend the feast in Jerusalem. This is the reason why I preach to so many people that other translations leave things out from the Bible and God warns us not to do this.

To come back to my point of today’s topic, Deo Volente, is that we read how Paul also states that he will come back to the people in Ephesus, if God wills. He knew, just like the elderly people in the congregation I find myself in, that whatever we plan, the last say is God’s. We can plan, we can sow but it will only come to light if God wills. He have the last say, whether you are a child of God or not. Everything happens if He wants it like that. Whether you or I like it or not, God is God. He is the only God and He is the the One who have the last say.

Live your life with this knowing. Make plans, dream, sow but knows that if anything succeed, it was God’s will. If it doesn’t come to light, it was also God’s will. We ask why something doesn’t happen the way we want it but we need to remember that God have a plan and everything happens according to that. We might not understand it but that’s where we need to trust Him.

Neurons and growth factors

Hello. If you would rather like to listen to this article, follow the link:

This week I learned that when you exercise, your body creates a growth factor called BRAINDERIVED NEUROTROPHIC FACTOR or in short, BDNF. This growth factor then moves to your brain and in the brain, it creates new neurons. Neurons in your brain are responsible for brain health. This means that it helps for the possible prevention of dementia, Alzheimer’s, and neurons are also responsible for sending messages to different parts of your body. In other words, they use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information between different areas of the brain, and between the brain and the rest of the nervous system, according to the National Institution of Neurological Disorders and stroke.

Isn’t it wonderful how our bodies were created by God? How God brought everything into consideration when He has created us.

Gen 1:26-27 says: And God said, “Let us make humankind in our image and according to our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of heaven, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every moving thing that moves upon the earth.” So God created humankind in his image, in the likeness of God he created him, male and female he created them.

Psa 139:14  I praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it well.

We are wonderfully made. Wonderful is God’s works. There is no denying the fact that God exists. It just comes down to the fact whether we acknowledge Him and accept Him in our lives. But just looking at how our bodies were made, no human-made another one. No human makes a new baby in a woman’s womb. Two opposite-sex partners have sex and then the sperm of the male travels to the egg in the female. These two meet and an embryo are formed which is life. A new life that forms into a baby human. God is the potter, we are the clay. He forms that embryo and then He forms it into a baby. He also has the might to either let the woman become pregnant or not.

God makes us wonderfully. Just looking at how important movement is which creates new growth factors, move to the brain and create new neurons for us to have brain health. How wonderful is that! No human thought about it or created it. How wonderful, Father God.

A topic that will challenge you

Hello. This article is the script of the podcast episode. If you would like to listen to this article, the follow the link:

Father God, we come to you today in the Name of Jesus Christ. I ask you to please protect me and this listener, our families, our career, the company we work at, our marriage, our children, our home, our yard under the blood of Jesus Christ. We thank you God, in Jesus Christ Name we pray. Amen.

My husband has a caller identity app on his cellphone which shows you the company’s name that is calling you. He called me over and showed me the one call he had missed on his cellphone. The caller identity app showed it as: The Satanic Temple. We were both shocked to see this because we love Jesus Christ and our lives have been given to Him. He is our Lord and Saviour. But this made me think. Why did this religion group called? Why are they reaching out?

In Luke 17:20-21 it stands: The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God would come. He answered them, “People can’t observe the coming of the kingdom of God. They can’t say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ You see, the kingdom of God is within you.”

So what or whom is this Kingdom of God?

Joh 14:16-17  I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper who will be with you forever. That helper is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn’t see or know him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be in you.

The Kingdom of God is the Holy Spirit, is Jesus Christ.

Gal 4:6-7  Because you are God’s children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into us to call out, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer slaves but God’s children. Since you are God’s children, God has also made you heirs.

The reason why this religious group of the Satanic Temple might have called, is to proclaim what they believe in. Just like any other religion group out there, they proclaim what they believe in. We as children of God, what we do and what we talk, is it proclaiming Jesus Christ? Are we putting the Kingdom of God first? Our motives for what we do, is it to promote the Kingdom of God? Because this is exactly what other religion groups do. They stand up for what they believe in. They go out and proclaim what they believe in. Why are we so afraid as Christians to proclaim Jesus? Because we have come to a point where we love our lives, more than Jesus Christ. We have come to the point where we love our work more than Jesus Christ. We are afraid to talk about Jesus Christ at work because we are afraid of persecution and losing our job.

Are we true to ourselves as Christians?

Are how you live or what you do for the Kingdom of God or to hold onto what you have or to build your own empire?

Our struggles is not against humans

Today’s message is an encouragement for any Christian who lives in today’s world. If you would rather like to listen to this article, click on the link:

Over the years that I have come to love Jesus, learning about who He is in the Bible and preaching Him to everyone, it has not been easy. There are many who took what I said and persecuted me, who opposed me for what I preached. Working with people who do not believe in Jesus and who choose not to believe. Because of my love for Jesus, I struggle to keep quiet about Him. I tell those who I work with, those I know and those who are in my life about God and His Word. Do you know why? Because there was no one in my teenage years who took the time to explain the things of God, to me. There was no one who told me about how God can help me and how God helps you. My motivation is this, to tell everyone about who God is, how God can help you and about the things of God. There’s only one truth and that is God’s Word. Many disagree with me and that’s okay because here’s why:

Eph 6:11-12  Put on all the armor that God supplies. In this way you can take a stand against the devil’s strategies. This is not a wrestling match against a human opponent. We are wrestling with rulers, authorities, the powers who govern this world of darkness, and spiritual forces that control evil in the heavenly world.

When I meet someone who are against what I preach, I always remember that it’s not the person who is against me but what is behind that person. It’s the thing or things I don’t see. It’s the spiritual forces of evil. They are opposing me, they are influencing that person who God tries to bring to faith in His Son, who is opposing what we as children of God, preach. There are many people who make the decision to not believe in the dark forces like demons and Satan and then there are others who are blind against them.

We as children of God, Christians, need the help of God when we talk to someone who don’t believe. We need to ask God to help us against the spiritual forces we can’t see and to pull that person towards His Son Jesus Christ. Without God’s help, we are nothing against it.

Remember, that when someone opposes the truth that you preach, it’s not the person but what’s behind that person. But what if that person tries to kill us? That person who either wants to physically kill our body or by killing us in a way where we lose our job, our income, our name? Then remember this:

Mat 10:28  Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

People can kill what we have or our bodies but they can’t kill our soul. That part of us, only God can destroy in hell. But if you are a child of God, then you know that your stop after life in this world, will be with God in heaven. What a comfort and joy to know this.

Listen, it’s not easy to be disagreed with, to be disrespect or cursed for telling those who don’t believe in Jesus, about your Lord and Savior. About the only God there is, the One that made them. But remember this: I try to think about it this way. That God have sent you, His child to this person. To tell them about God. Think about how much He must love this person, that He have sent you to tell them about Him, so that they have the chance to repent and give their lives to Jesus. Take a moment and think about it. Do you remember when you didn’t believe? How there was someone who took you and told you about Jesus? Who invited you to church? Do you remember how God have sent someone along your way to do that for you?

It’s not easy, ever but remember how much He loves you. Hold fast to Jesus, hold fast to God’s promises even though you get opposition for what you preach, the truth which is Jesus Christ.

May God bless you dear child of God.

A flower here and a spice there

A flower here and some spice there. If you would like to listen to this article:

Lila is sitting in front of her computer. Her eye caught a glance in the mirror in front of her, of her arm on her lap. She can see the skin on her arm has loosened and there are some wrinkles as well. She’s not that old but old enough to start seeing changes like this, on her body. Although she still feels like in her twenties, she isn’t anymore. Her mind plays games with her every day. “You are twenty-something,” but Lila knows that isn’t true, not anymore if she catches a glimpse like this or herself in the mirror.

Psa 103:15-16  Human life is as short-lived as grass. It blossoms like a flower in the field. When the wind blows over the flower, it disappears, and there is no longer any sign of it.

This is what God’s Word says about our life. Upon reading the Matthew Henry commentary, he says:

As for man, his days are as grass, which grows out of the earth, rises but a little way above it, and soon withers and returns to it again. See Isa_40:6, Isa_40:7. Man, in his best estate, seems somewhat more than grass; he flourishes and looks gay; yet then he is but like a flower of the field, which, though distinguished a little from the grass, will wither with it.

Our life here on earth is shorter than we might think. It might feel long in certain seasons of our life. God’s Word says that the days of our years might be seventy or if by strength eighty years (Ps 90:10).

This amount of years might sound like a lot but think back to your parents. When you realized, they were 70 years old. You couldn’t believe how fast time has flown by. It still this way for each of our lives. We are like grass. We grow to the desired length and then we die. So what’s my point of today’s podcast?

Life is short. Let us live it to its full potential where we make a difference while we have the blessing of God to wake up on earth. Pick that flower from your garden and take it to someone. Create your unique meat or hot drink spice and take it to someone as a gift. Give that money note or change in your wallet, to the guy begging at the robot without judgment. You never know how that gift of yours, can make the biggest impact on that person’s life that day. It can save a life from suicide, a life from dying from hunger, and a life from feeling all alone in this world.

Doing good is such a blessing. It’s such a pleasure in life to be able to give to others, to share what you have, and to show love through giving. Be that someone who loves and cares and be that someone who takes their 70 or 80 years and double it by living it to the fullest every single day.
